QC Core Curriculum (CUNY Pathways) Requirements
Effective Fall 2013, entering freshmen and transfer students will follow a revised liberal arts curriculum to meet the requirements of the CUNY Pathways Initiative.

The Pathways General Education framework is common to all CUNY colleges. This guarantees that the core curriculum requirements fulfilled at one CUNY college will carry over seamesly if a student transfers to another CUNY college.

At Queens College our curriculum is known for its strong focus on the liberal arts - an approach that empowers students with the tools necessary to become free and independent thinkers. The QC Core is also flexible, allowing you to meet requirements in a way that fits your individual interests. For more information, Click here

At the heart of our mission is the principle that academic advising is integral to the enterprise of teaching, understanding oneself, and actualizing learning goals while in pursuit of an advanced education and degree. We believe that strong advising structures support and enhance students’ educational pathways and academic experiences while fostering educational engagement in preparation for roles and responsibilities in a global citizenry. Through its many programs, services, outreach efforts, and initiatives, the contributions and assessed outcomes of the Academic Advising Center (AAC) at Queens College reinforces the role of advising in student achievement and retention, thereby supporting the institutional mission and vitality of the College, and the future academic and personal successes of its students.Read more ...

The Center promotes the understanding, appreciation and negotiation of a liberal arts education by introducing and supporting the philosophy, history, purpose and value of such. This includes encouragement to explore the world through a broad range of courses with a global focus; studying various areas of knowledge from diverse perspectives; and becoming familiar with new ways of understanding the world for the development of one’s possibilities and contributions therein — “Discimus ut Serviamus: We learn so that we may serve.”

In doing so, advisors embrace ideologies and pragmatics in highlighting degree requirements, policies & procedures, campus services, student life, and educational opportunities that extend beyond classroom learning and beyond the receipt of the baccalaureate degree. Through a joint effort between the student and advisor, students may tailor their educational experiences in order to take full advantage of their current options so as to prepare them for a lifetime of choice and opportunity.

The Center serves as a support system for the student body and the academic programs and management of the institution by ensuring clarity, uniformity, and informational accessibility of college-wide academic, procedural and experiential information that is introduced upon students’ entry and supported centrally through graduation. The AAC provides the College’s centralized and integrated academic advising services to incoming and continuing undergraduate students to foster timely and successful receipt of the baccalaureate degree. ...Hide

First Year Writing Program:

Writing is fundamental to a Queens College education and the first step is English 110: College Writing 1. With no more than 20 students, these intimate seminars are the single course that all Queens College freshmen experience. For this reason, the College Writing curriculum is designed to give students a basic understanding of the principles and methods of college writing that they will continue to practice and master in their other classes.
