»General Education at Queens College» LASAR Curriculum (Fall 1981 - Spring 2009)
In order to graduate from Queens College, students must satisfy requirements set by the College, the City University, and the New York State Board of Regents. The Queens College degree consists of the following requirements for Student who matriculated between Fall 1981 & Spring 2009:
- Primary College Competencies :
- Composition - English 110 or exemption by scoring 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement Exam
- Mathematics - Math 110 or higher, or exemption by placment into Pre-calculus or Calculus on the CUNY Math Proficiency Exam (or Compass exam), passing the NYS Math B Regents (or Sequential III Math or Intermediate Algebra & Trignometry, or a score of 3 or higher on the Calculus Advanced Placement Exam.
- Foreign Language - Intermediate level of a foreign language or completion of the third year through the same high school language or the NYS Regents Comprehensive language exam or completion of a proficiency examination, or a course in American Sign Language at the intermediate level from an accredited institution.
- Physical Education - One course from FNES 11 through 30, or gradaution from a police/firefighter academy, or military training.
- Liberal Arts and Science Area Requirements : Complete the series of LASAR courses in seven areas that promote intellectual breadth.

- Tier 1 (one course)
- Tier 2 (one course)
- Humanities II (one course)
- Humanities III (one course)
- Physical & Biological Science
- Group A (one course)
- Group A or B (one course)
- Scientific Methodology & Quantitative Reasoning(one course)
- Social Science (two course)
- Pre-Industrial/Non-Western Civilization
- Humanities I
- Complete at least one major. A minimum of one-third of the requirements for the major must be taken at Queens College. Individual departments may have additional transfer credit restrictions and grade or grade point average requirements. Click here for a list of our Majors
- Complete a minimum of three writing intensive courses, at least one in residency, which can be taken as part of the LASAR or in the Major. These courses are designed with a "W" after the course number, and are designed to provide students with several opportunities to improve their writing skills. - Maintain an overall average of 2.0 or better
- A minimum of 120 credits (subtract credit for repeated courses)
- At least 45 credits in residency at Queens
